We attended a hui for national organisations and it was very lively discussion! We want to share the issues we raised at this meeting for our members to consider, and hopefully you can use as a basis for you to participate in other hui around the country and send us your comments.
I attended a consultation meeting in Waitakere. It was well attended but not full, which may be a comment in itself. There is a predominant feeling that the work on this must continue, however that was matched by a good degree of scepticism, and a very strong demand that the words must be matched by the deeds this time.

We argue that fundamentally local government is the closest form of government we have to local communities. It provides many essential roles in strengthening community-wellbeing. NZFVWO thoroughly endorses the purpose of local government: “to play a broad role in promoting the social, economic and environmental and cultural well being of their communities, taking a sustainable development approach”.
A working group has been established by Minister Bennett to “address long term welfare dependency and achieve a welfare system is sustainable over the long term, is fair to both recipients and tax payers, and gets better results for New Zealanders.”
